Digital Communications Consultant (Part-time)
The Boston Book Festival seeks a part-time Digital Communications Consultant to manage its growing digital presence. This role focuses on social media, email newsletters, and website updates, helping to promote BBF programming and engage diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Social Media Management
- Plan, create, and schedule content across BBF social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).
- Develop and maintain a consistent voice aligned with BBF’s brand and mission
- Monitor engagement, respond to comments/messages, and foster community interaction
- Track performance metrics and recommend strategies for growth and engagement
Email Marketing & Newsletters
- Assist with drafting, designing, and distributing regular newsletters and announcements
- Manage mailing lists and audience segmentation
- Optimize open rates and engagement through testing and analytics
Website Content Updates
- Maintain and update website content (author announcements, programming information, banners, etc.)
- Ensure content is timely, accurate, and aligned with current programming
- Collaborate with staff to highlight authors, sponsors and partners.
Qualifications:
- 2 – 4 years experience in digital communications, marketing, or similar
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Experience with social media creation and management (e.g., Canva or Adobe InDesign), email platforms (e.g., Constant Contact), and website platforms (e.g., WordPress)
- Organized, reliable, flexible and able to work independently on a limited weekly schedule
- Interest in literature, arts, or nonprofit work preferred

Office Manager (Seasonal, Part-time)
Dates: June – November
Hours: Flexible hours and schedule with increased availability required around festival time.
Position Overview
The Boston Book Festival seeks an organized, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic office manager to support administrative operations leading up to and during our annual literary festival. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced arts environment and can take on multiple roles to support our small team.
The Office Manager will play a key role in coordinating office operations, communications, scheduling, volunteer logistics, and event support to ensure the smooth execution of the festival.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily administrative and office operations for the festival team
- Coordinate calendars, meetings, and scheduling for staff and participants
- Respond to emails, phone calls, and general inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain databases, spreadsheets, registration records, and filing systems
- Assist with author, sponsor, volunteer, and vendor communications
- Support event planning logistics, including venue coordination and materials preparation
- Track office supplies, festival materials, and inventory needs
- Process invoices, expense reports, and basic bookkeeping tasks as assigned
- Help recruit, schedule, and communicate with volunteers
- Provide on-site operational support during festival events
- Assist with social media updates, mailings, and promotional outreach as needed
Qualifications:
- Previous administrative, office management, nonprofit, or event coordination experience preferred
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva and database systems
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Flexible schedule during peak festival periods, including some evenings and weekends
Compensation: Hourly, commensurate with experience.

Operations Manager
Full-time, year-round
As the logistical hub of the organization, the Operations Manager is responsible for the comprehensive planning and execution of all operational aspects of the Boston Book Festival. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Brighton, MA.
The Operations Manager oversees a wide range of responsibilities, including logistics, administration, volunteer management, and sponsor/partner support. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Venue Management
- Oversee contract agreements with festival venues
- Source and secure new venues as needed
Exhibitor Management
- Oversee exhibitor area contractors and coordination
- Manage the festival vendor process, including applications, agreements, invoicing, and logistics
Volunteer Management
- Hire and manage a seasonal Volunteer Coordinator to assist with recruiting, training, and scheduling 300+ volunteers
- Develop and deliver volunteer training programs
Operations and Production
- Manage contracts and vendor relationships
- Oversee ticketing for events
- Coordinate hotel bookings for participants
Partnership and Sponsorship Support
- Coordinate sponsorship deliverables with print and digital content producers
Office Management
- Oversee day-to-day office operations, including mailings and supplies
- Maintain BBF software systems and databases, including donor management software, Constant Contact, WordPress, VolunteerLocal, and Eventbrite
Qualifications:
We seek a proactive individual with outstanding organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a small team, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of operations-related experience, including:
- Proven Event Operations Experience: Demonstrated success managing large-scale, multi-venue events or festivals, including venue procurement, contract negotiation, and on-site logistics
- Strong Stakeholder Management Skills: Experience building and maintaining relationships with partners, sponsors, donors, and other key stakeholders
- Collaborative Leadership: Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff, contractors, and large volunteer teams
- Organizational & Project Management Excellence:Strong ability to plan, coordinate, and execute complex projects on deadline while managing multiple priorities
- Communication & Problem-Solving:Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to troubleshoot issues in real time and ensure smooth operations under pressure
- Time Management:Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines, especially during peak festival periods
- Technical Proficiency:Comfort with systems and process improvement, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Asana, Sched, and similar tools (or ability to quickly learn new systems)
Reporting Structure:
The Operations Manager reports to the Executive Director.
Working Conditions:
- Required to work Festival Day on Saturday, October 17, 2026
- Ability to work at a desk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (e.g., a box of books)
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods
